I have a hunch that it might be after Lenny, so that latex.conf is ok on Lenny.  If you had a latex.conf lying around somewhere I'd be interested in having it.

I can see how the pdf is awful, which is most likely not caused by pdflatex, most likely Asciidoc is producing flaked LaTeX.  If I had a latex.conf that produces good LaTeX, I could then just compare the LaTeX files, and then work from there on latex.conf: although that syntax doen't look very nice.
